Common dental problems
Toothache
If you are experiencing acute dental pain or facial swelling please get in touch with us on 01224 640759 to arrange an appointment.
Bleeding after extractions
Apply pressure to the socket by biting on a clean handkerchief or cloth for 30 minutes. If the bleeding does not stop please call the practice or dial 111 if out of hours.
Pink saliva and a little bit of oozing from the socket is normal following an extraction. Avoid hot drinks, alcohol & smoking. Do not rinse your mouth for 24 hours.
Bleeding gums
These will improve if you clean your teeth and gums effectively. Brush twice daily for 2 minutes especially at the gum line and don’t forget to clean between the teeth regularly with floss or interdental brushes. Corsodyl mouthwash may help but prolonged use can cause staining.

"ToofyPegs" kits from the pharmacy can be used to re-stick lost crowns or veneers at home as a temporary measure. Please contact the practice for an appointment if you have a crown or bridgework which requires recementing.
Ulcers
Bonjela can be applied to the area that is painful before meals in particular. Take painkillers if necessary. Rinse with saltwater to prevent infection. If the ulcer does not heal within one week, please contact the practice.

Lost fillings / Broken teeth
Emergency dental temporary filling kits can be bought at most pharmacists. Take painkillers if required. Again, good oral hygiene and low sugar intake will help and contact to make an appointment with the dentist.
